Some restorative and cosmetic dental procedures may require extraction.
When an extraction may be needed:
• If extensive decay is present
• Tooth cannot be saved by endodontic therapy or root canal
• The tooth is too weak to support a crown or other restorations.
The dentist may also recommend extraction if there’s advanced gum disease that can destroy tissues and bone and if a tooth is not fully coming out because it’s being blocked by another tooth.
